TonguePRESS (Single)

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS • Strengthen the tongue to improve speech and swallowing • Can be used with children and adults • Can be sent home with client for additional practice MORE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT TonguePRESS® Developed and patented in the USA by Kathleen Smead. This is a clinically developed therapy tool for strengthening the tongue. Based on research (Robbins et al.) supporting the use of tongue press to strengthen swallowing pressures and tongue, TonguePRESS™ incorporates the principles of exercise and resistance training for improved speech and swallowing abilities. It is filled with water and adjusted by loosening or tightening the valve. The water-filled bulb is placed on the tongue and pressed against the hard palate. The greater the client is able to press, the higher the indicator rises. By practicing repetitively, the client increases strength. It can be sent home with client to practice thereby expanding the benefits of direct treatment and reducing the cost of care. The exercise is performed 3 three times daily for adults with frequency modified for children. For individual use only. Patent #9,149,681. WARNING: California's Proposition 6 TonguePRESS® is a resistance exercise tool for building the strength of the tongue. Developed to compliment the IOPI by offering a home exercise unit for tongue pressing. Studies of tongue pressing reported improved swallow pressures and strength. TonguePRESS® uses water pressure to provide resistance to the bulb. The patient places the bulb in his/her mouth and presses the bulb with his tongue against the hard palate. The indicator rises in direct relation to the strength of the tongue's pressure. Repetitive exercise with the device can improve tongue strength for swallowing improvement which can be documented using instruments such as the IOPI. Can be used with adults and children. For individual use. Patent US9149681B2

THERASTRAWS II

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS • Controls the size of sip • Can be used in assessment and prescribed for use • For individual use MORE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT TheraStraws II help patients manage thin liquids. The straws are engineered to limit the size of thin fluid intake. The SINGLE SET comes with an angled stainless steel straw and a pack of straw cartridges in white, clear gray and blue. Three cartridges of each size are included. Each cartridge fits into the stainless straw to restrict the flow. The clinician assesses which size straw-cartridge restricts flow the best for the patient. The selected cartridge is then prescribed for the safest intake of thin liquids. The interior diameters of the clear and the white straws are comparable to the size of standard cocktail-stir straws. The gray’s interior diameter is approximately 50% smaller and the blue’s diameter is approximately 75% smaller than cocktail stir straws. TheraSTRAWS II come in a variety of sets for institutional facilities. These sets and replacement Cartridges are available on website. The straws can be cleaned for reuse with soap, water and the included brush. Clean before use Not for use with thickened liquids.

SwallowMIST

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS • Provides a safe way to practice swallows • Fine mist helps to moisten the mouth • Effective tool for clients with swallowing problems MORE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT SwallowMist A unique tool used to moisten the mouth. Simply fill with water, pump to pressurize, and press the button to mist water into the mouth. One short press provides less than 1 ml of water; held down longer will increase the amount dispensed. This is effective for clients with swallowing problems and especially for those who are designated as nothing-by-mouth. Provides a safe manner of practicing swallows since the fine mist will be comparable to the amount of saliva in a dry swallow. For individual use only. Comes with instructions for use. SwallowMist is a misting spray device that can be filled with water and used to administer a trace amount of liquid into a patient's mouth. The amount sprayed is a small mist of moisture to hydrate the oral mucosa. The tool can be used for swallowing practice in patients that are unable to tolerate sips or teaspoons of liquid. SwallowMist can be used instead of ice chips for NPO patients. No batteries needed.

TheraSIP Swallowing Trainer

TheraSIP™ Swallowing Trainer is an easy-to-use tool to practice swallowing exercises safely using very small sips of thin liquid. The kit includes a set of micro-resist straws engineered to limit the size of the swallowing to under 2ml simulating the amount of saliva in the mouth during a dry swallow. For patients requiring repetitive swallowing drills of hard swallows or the Masako technique, TheraSIP Swallowing Trainer makes this possible. The resist straws come in three sizes so a gradual increase in bolus size can be advanced as the patient’s swallow improves. The kit includes a 25-ml measuring cylinder so the clinician can measure the size of each sip. In addition to the three resist straws, a set of TheraSTRAWS are included which can be used during bedside or instrumental studies to determine if bolus size is a significant factor and if so what size straw is the safest to use for thin liquid intake or free water protocol. These straws can be telescoped together to increase the outer diameter. If all sized TheraSTRAWS result in aspiration or unsafe intake, the clinician should avoid their use and prescribe thickened liquids until improvement is seen. The TheraSIP Trainer is used with traditional swallowing therapy techniques and is an excellent adjunct to e-stim or NMES treatments. The single client kit can be prescribed for independent exercise. Kit contains: gauged cylinder with sliding guide to mark fluid levels, set of straws, measuring cup, instructional manual, and recording sheets. Single-client use only.

HumBEE Velo-Pharyngeal Air Emission Feedback Kit

HumBEE is a handheld feedback tool for monitoring nasal air emission during speech production. HumBEE is used for assessment and treatment of patients with hypernasality caused by cleft palate, neurological involvement, injury or functional loss. The device is placed in one nostril and the foam indicator should not rise when words without nasal sounds (m, n, and ing) are produced. To demonstrate, the child or adult is asked to hum with the HumBEE in place. The indicator should rise easily to the top of the device. When asked to produce the word "BEE" the indicator should not move. HumBEE can also be used with other auditory feedback devices to help direct the patient's efforts appropriately. HumBEE comes with two nasal tips, a cleaning brush, instructional brochure and the HumBEE Game. Replacement nasal tips and indicators are available.
